It’s been way too long since I’ve been in touch, but I’m back. After all that touring for GENERALS, I spent last year touring as a member of the Postal Service (amazing to be a part of a band of genius, good-hearted human beings), then spent this whole year writing and recording a NEW MYNABIRDS RECORD. And it’s finished! Well, mostly… Still a few finishing touches, but it should be out and in your hands and ears and hearts in early 2015. Stay tuned for that. In the mean time, I’ve got some SOLO SHOWS IN NYC + LONDON IN THE NEXT FEW WEEKS. And did I tell you I went on a SOLO TOUR OF SOUTH AFRICA this past July? NYC + LONDON SOLO SHOWS
Playing some BRAND NEW and old Mynabirds songs solo in NYC and London in the next couple weeks. It’ll be super stripped-down and story-filled — and it’s my first time ever in the history of time playing London as the Mynabirds. It’s getting cold out there; let’s get cozy. NEW MYNABIRDS RECORD
I’ve been obsessed with this Faulkner quote: “You cannot swim for new horizons until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.” And so over the past year I drove across the US twice and toured South Africa solo while writing. Then I spent the last 8 months in studios in Nashville, Los Angeles and Joshua Tree recording. This new record is unlike anything I’ve ever done (I’ve always believed consistency is overrated): it’s kind of an electric guitar-driven, shoe-gazey, 90s R&B bedroom break-up record. I’ll just leave it at that for now and send you something to hear when it’s perfectly ready… Regardless, I’m really proud of it and can’t wait for you to hear it.
SOUTH AFRICA SOLO TOUR WRAP-UP
I had the most incredible adventure touring South Africa this past July thanks to the amazing folks at ONE FINE DAY. Went on safari, drove on the “wrong side,” put my feet in the Indian Ocean on the Wild Coast, and played some of my favorite shows ever. And I made some of the best friends, too. You can watch a teaser for the full documentary that’s in the works here. Seriously the best! Hope to get back again real soon…
