New Album White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood Out Now

Last night, of Montreal were special guests on Comedy Central’s The Opposition with Jordan Klepper, weaving in and out of the show, holding boom mics and handing out non-disclosure agreements.  If that wasn’t enough work, they also performed two tracks from their new album White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood. Watch them perform “Paranoiac Intervals/ Body Dysmorphia Here & “Soft Music/Juno Portraits of the Jovian Sky” Here

White Is Relic/Irrealis Mood is out now via Polyvinyl Recording Co. Be sure to catch of Montreal live during their US tour. Complete dates are below.Musically, White is Relic/Irrealis Mood draws inspiration from extended dance mixes used for pop singles during the 80’s. “I used that template with these tracks, I wanted them all to feel like the extended “club edit” of album tracks” says Barnes. Abandoning familiar approaches to recording used on recent of Montreal albums, Barnes decided instead to work alone or remotely with collaborators. Composer Zac Colwell contributed saxophones and synths to most of the songs. Also enlisted were long time collaborators, and of Montreal touring members, Clayton Rychlik and JoJo Glidewell.
