Congo-born, Peckham-raised Omo Frenchie is the leading light of a new wave of music coming out of the UK. Drawing from well-established staples like grime and UK rap, Frenchie also references Afrobeat, Coupe Decale and Zouk sounds within his own music to create a fresh and unique twist on the underground.

As confident layering harmonies as he is spitting bars, Frenchie’s multi-faceted approach to creating music — he also produces many of his own beats — immediately sets him apart as one of the most exciting, and moreover, versatile new artists on the come-up.

Laced with French slang and bags of international swagger, his debut, eight-track EP, ‘Diamond In The Dirt’, is to be released on Peckham-based imprint Cotch International on May 19 and follows 2016 underground smash, ‘Makelele’.

Featuring other rising artists from the same blossoming scene, including Kwamz & Flava and Suspect OTB, as well as breakout UK rapper Abra Cadabra on ‘Chosen’, ‘Diamond In The Dirt’ is a gritty and powerful introduction to Frenchie’s world.

From the fiery club dynamics of ‘Betise’ and ‘Telema’, to the panoramic hip-hop of ‘Sauce feat Suspect OTB’, to hook-heavy Afrobeats jams like ‘Be2Gedda’, it lands as a vital window into a scene that everybody should be keeping tabs on in 2017.
