Orion Sun releases new album ‘Orion’ + UK/EU tour dates

Today, the acclaimed singer, songwriter, and producer, Orion Sun released her highly anticipated new self-titled album, Orion, out via Mom + Pop and a moving visual directed by Linus Johnson. The new body of work reveals a striking new chapter in Orion’s personal life and creative journey and is brought to life through the dynamic walls of Orion.  Sonically, the album captures the evolution of Orion’s ethereal, boundless sound, presenting Orion like we’ve never seen or heard her before.

Earlier this week, Zane Lowe premiered the captivating track ‘These Days’ on his beloved Apple Music’s Beats 1 radio show as part of the New Music Daily playlist cover and today Orion shares a striking visual for the single. The album serves as Orion’s first offering following a two year hiatus, resulting in a deeply palpable body of work that will undeniably establish the young Orion as a major force in the music area and one of today’s most essential artists.

Earlier this week, Orion celebrated the release of her new album with special, intimate events in New York and Los Angeles. In partnership with beloved NYC brand La Pere, Orion threw a party with friends and fans, fusing a moment of love and community that is at the core of Orion through a series of collage making and a personal DJ set from Orion herself. In Los Angeles, Orion partnered with the Black Image Center that featured multiple artworks from the album campaign, including the original album art painting by Malene Laugesen and collages by Orion Sun.

Orion Sun has impressively achieved extraordinary feats rarely seen amongst the realm of independent artists. She consistently clocks in over 5 million monthly streams on Spotify alone out of an album cycle, managing to soar to meteoric heights during the pandemic, a time that proved difficult for many artists. Additionally, the young artist’s star has continued to rise as she opened for Daniel Caesar’s Superpowers World Tour in 2023 and she recently earned a staggering writing credit on Bryson Tiller’s explosive track ‘Whatever She Wants’ that sampled her song “Intro” from her breakout Getaway EP. “This album, like all of my albums, is about love. It’s about the pain love brings whether you are with or without love. Pain finds you and tells you sweet things like ‘you will grow from this’, or ‘you wouldn’t have learned this without knowing me’. Pain has a point meaning pain has direction. Sometimes pain leads me to my vices like weed and alcohol, lust, and too many sweets. It’s the same coping mechanism as stubbing your toes but biting your arm to redirect the pain away from your hurt toe. As you can imagine, this path leads to nowhere. best case scenario it leads you back to where you started. I had to lose sight of my future so I could be present. I had to walk into the unknown knowing I could get to where I wanted to go even if I was scared. I’m always told to pick my head up but the longer you stare at the ground you begin to see it move then you get to see the whole world that lives on the ground. Ants like stars on sidewalk galaxies. I am of this world and many more, including the one where our love was enough and the world was on our side. I’m grateful for love because it makes you who you really are. We are crazy because we are trying to forget how crazy it is to be alive. Why must I reach rock bottom to appreciate the rock at the bottom and the fact that Earth got me if nobody else does. Hope can feel like a prison or medicine. I want to understand everything. Why I feel the way I feel and why it hurts so bad. How am I able to talk about something that once wouldn’t dare exit my mouth without vomit following shortly after. I’m curious about life, especially my own and this album explores that. It’s ok to stay in a place/state of mind/being, just don’t overstay. I’m constantly in a state of arrival and departure. It will have to end and love will have to say goodbye. It’s just how it goes and that is why I believe gratitude is more of a medicine than hope is.”
