Out Today: Grunge Favs Pom Pom Squad + more
Brooklyn-based “Quiet Grrrl” punk/grunge band Pom Pom Squad (reminiscent of Mitski/Rilo Kiley/PJ Harvey) just released their emotionally charged Ow EP today, along with an amazingly 90s/VHS throwback video for “Heavy Heavy.”

Along with “Heavy Heavy” (as heard on SiriusXM Alt Nation, etc), Pom Pom Squad previously shared singles “Cherry Blossom” and “Honeysuckle” from the EP.
Fronted by Mia Berrin, the band unites punk inclinations with a raw, visceral vulnerability. As a queer woman of color – two identities that come with their own preconceived notions – Mia’s lyrics also dive into mental health, abuse, trauma and healing. The band has been a staple in Brooklyn for their energetic live shows, sharing the stage with Soccer Mommy, Adult Mom, Wild Pink, Long Neck and more.

The Brook & The Bluff: “Hallways“
The Brook & The Bluff have announced their debut full-length album, First Place coming out October 25. So far, they’ve shared smooth single “Shelby” off the album, with more to come soon. With vocal harmonies reminiscent of bands like Rex Orange County and Hippo Campus, what began as a duo of Alec Bolton & Joseph Settine transformed into the dynamic live act with John Canada & Fred Lankford filling out the band. The Brook & The Bluffs first EP was widely successful – charting on Spotify’s US and Canada Viral 50 Playlists (7.2 million total artist Spotify streams) and selling out shows across the country. Along with the album, the band recently announced a national tour including stops at the Moon River Music Festival in Chattanooga, TN, Austin, Nashville, Los Angeles, and more – tour dates here.
Moon Palace: “Bold“
really love the Beach House/Warpaint vibe of this band, who also happen to be amazing people…Carrie works with the blind and deaf to find employment (the twins grew up with deaf parents) and Jude is an elementary school teacher/drum instructor at Queer & Trans Youth Music Program…They’re releasing a new album Shadowcast on Aug 23 – their last self-titled 2017 debut got a lot of love from KEXP (“heavenly…haunting…mesmerizing”), etc.
