Just when you thought your winter blues were reaching paramount, Parcels deliver a perfect remedy in a brand-new remix of album track ‘Lightenup’ by the legendary Alex Metric.
Parcels ended 2018 on an incredible high. Not only did they release their widely acclaimed debut album to a torrent of unanimous praise but they embarked on a monumental global headline tour which is currently ongoing. November and December were spent in Europe, playing sold out venue to sold out venue, including an exceptionally special one-off stop at London’s Roundhouse en route.
As they currently do a string of dates in their native Australia, Parcels have delivered a terrific remix of one of the albums many highlights, ‘Lightenup which has been done by Alex Metric, the hugely celebrated, Grammy Award winning British musician, DJ and producer. The result is a totally euphoric and soaring disco-trip that breathes new life into an already exceptional track.
On remixing Parcels, Alex Metric says – “As soon as I heard the track I became obsessed with it. I was in LA at the time and it sound-tracked my trip out there. I knew I had to remix it – I could hear the remix before I even started it. The parts are so good I approached it more like an edit, extending it and letting the track groove and breathe more. It’s also a rare occasion where I love the dub as much as the vocal. Having the one loop of the vocal doing the work sounds great, the lyrics are perfect. I hope people love it as much as I loved making it.”
Speaking on the remix, Parcels say – “When we received this remix from Alex we were in Milan. Backstage getting ready for a sweaty club show. We fired up our big black Parcels boombox and almost immediately we knew it was on. Flash two minutes forward and the five of us are dancing around the little greenroom like party fiends in a 3am LA nightclub. Flash seven minutes forward and we are walking on stage, shimmer in our eyes, groove in our hearts. For the next hour and fifteen minutes we brought it, we locked in, we pushed ourselves. All the while carrying the bold party spirit which the Alex Metric remix instilled within us. It’s big. We hope it can inspired something similar in listeners to come.”
