New dates in addition to Shepherd’s Bush Empire show 26th November

‘Muchacho’ is out now on Dead Oceans

Americana songwriter Phosphorescent has announced a full Autumn UK and European tour, all leading up to his biggest London show to date at 02 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on the 26th November. The tour starts in Gateshead on the 4th November, full details are below.

Off the back of the rapturous international reception to current album ‘Muchacho’, Phosphorescent, aka Matthew Houck, has a busy summer and rest of 2013 ahead of him, heading back on the road in the States from the end of this month. The live schedule takes in a few hallowed dates supporting the legendary Robert Plant in July, then on to play a handful of European festivals in August including Øya and Way Out West as well as Green Man.

Listen to Matthew muse about his ten year overnight success story on this week’s Guardian Music Weekly podcast

Earlier this year during The Great Escape, Phosphorescent recorded this warm and intimate solo version of album standout, ‘Song For Zula’ in a Brighton saxophone workshop for The Line of Best Fit.

‘These songs deftly map out that mess of ragged hurt, smoldering hope and self-righteous spite’ New York Times

‘On ‘Muchacho’, Houck gathers together everything he’s attempted- beery, rollicking country-rock, haunted tribal hymnals, regret-soaked bar room heartbreak– and fashions it into something close to a defining statement’ Best New Music (8.8), Pitchfork

“Phosphorescent has followed 2010’s country-rock homage ‘Here’s To Taking It Easy’ with an equally magnificent beast, mixing country jams with claustrophobic electronica and mournful Mariachi horns to create a beautiful but discomforting album.” 8/10, Uncut

‘Unquestionably excellent’ 4/5, Q
