Breakout UK duo piri & tommy today release their brand new single, ‘someone’, a radiant, full-circle moment that captures the euphoria of finding both a musical and creative match. Today’s release also marks a new chapter for piri & tommy as they sign to Believe, announce a support slot for Dope Lemon (full tour dates listed below), and confirm details of their forthcoming EP, magic!
Written during the very first months of their collaboration in lockdown 2020, ‘someone’ began with a beat and hook tommy sketched out immediately after meeting piri. The demo lived on repeat in her headphones during late-night shifts at Asda (“I listened 36 times in a row”, she laughs), before she added her verse and completed the story. Four years later, the track finally emerges, a sparkling, optimistic anthem that showcases the pair’s rare chemistry.
Stepping away from their signature drum’n’bass foundations, ‘someone’ introduces a bold new chapter for piri & tommy. It’s a song that embraces joy, intimacy and pop ambition without losing the duo’s playful spirit. “Taking a step away from explicitly ‘dance’ music is so exciting for us too,” explains piri. “Exploring other areas of our musicality has been really fun and we can’t wait to share even more of the different sides to piri & tommy. We’re coming for pop.”
That journey continues on their upcoming EP, magic!, arriving soon. A dazzling showcase of their versatility, magic! sees piri & tommy break out of their dance music box and dive headfirst into pop, funk, disco and neo-soul. Both artists take lead vocals for the first time, a moment fans have been waiting for: “Yes, we’ve been making dance music, but we’ve really just been making songs!” the duo explain. “We’ve always made whatever music we love, and this project finally gave us the space to full-send the funk. Making music together is magic, getting to live as artists is magic, and the fact that we even met (on Tinder!) is the most magical thing of all.”
Since their viral debut ‘soft spot’ lit up TikTok in 2021 (now at 27 million Spotify streams), piri & tommy have carved out one of the UK’s most distinctive new careers in electronic pop. Follow-up singles ‘beachin’’, ‘words’ and the hypnotic ‘on & on’ cemented their reputation for irrepressible, inventive dance music, while their debut mixtape froge.mp3became a post-pandemic coming-of-age soundtrack. Along the way they’ve sold out tours across the UK, Europe and Australia, supported Charli XCX, and lit up festival stages with their full-band live show.
Now independent, and navigating the next stage of their artistic evolution, piri & tommy are focused on building something enduring: music that’s as heartfelt as it is fun, and as versatile as their own story. ‘someone’ is proof that this is only the beginning of phase two.
