piri & Tommy return with new single, ‘99%’

piri & tommy are back today with their first new music of the year, ‘99%’. One of the UK’s most exciting and unpredictable dance-pop sensations, ‘99%’ is the first preview of piri & tommy’s upcoming EP, following breakthrough mixtape froge.mp3 and a series of standalone bangers; not to mention collaborations with the likes of salute, MJ Cole, plus remixes for Disclosure and NiNE8.

‘99%’ is piri and tommy back where they belong – soundtracking the best party possible – and a call-back, too, to the pair’s unlikely origin-story. Its euphoric D&B depicts an infamous Leeds house party that piri & tommy would often frequent, fitted out with a DIY sound-system, tin foil decor and a capacity that’s never less than ‘99%’. “Our message has always been to have fun with music and get people dancing, so it feels very full circle for us to come with a new track all inspired by partying and UK student basement culture. The world needs to party now more than ever, and this is our humble offering back to the scene that inspires us constantly and keeps us going.”

2024 opens a new chapter for piri & tommy, whose rise to date has been little short of remarkable. Independent, out of their relationship, and stronger than ever, theirs is an increasingly-clear vision always bound by the duo’s rare creative chemistry. piri & tommy famously first met on Tinder, with their love of dance music drawing on completely different backgrounds: Science graduate piri was working with the rest of her family in the local Asda when she matched with tommy, a music student and sometime-DJ in Manchester. piri & tommy formed a band and even bubbled together in a student house over lockdown, with viral hits like ‘soft spot’ sparking a rapid rise through the music industry (BBC Sound Poll, MTV Push, VEVO DSCVR, Radio 1’s Hottest Record Of The Year, and even their first charting single with ‘on & on’). Their debut mixtape, froge.mp3, was a vivid snapshot of youth culture and adjusting to life post-pandemic: as Pop’s love-affair with club music deepens, it has the increasing feel of a modern-classic.

From student house-parties to global touring (and back again), piri & tommy have always had something about them. The pair are ambitious for timeless music that transcends short-term genre trends or the durability of an App, whilst still living and breathing club culture with a passion matched by few of their commercial peers.
