PLASTIC MERMAIDS SHARE “DRØMTORP” VIDEO AHEAD OF BESTIVAL APPEARANCE
THEIR DEBUT EP IS OUT NOW VIA CROSS KEYS RECORDS
Praise for Plastic Mermaids:
“Plastic Mermaids have a subtle grandeur, a swirling euphoria which sits somewhere between Animal Collective and Hope Of The States.” – Clash
“‘It’s very exciting to hear a group pushing such simple ideas effectively.” – DIY
“Plastic Mermaids win me over from the start…the tones are all just right – there’s something very classic about this.”– The FADER
“Some of the most creatively deployed panning heard all year. Cinematic and gorgeously textural, this cut sounds like Mercury Rev going on a road trip with The Flaming Lips.”– Q
“The Isle of Wight band fashion chamber-pop majesty that sounds somehow effortless and preordained.” – Sunday Times Culture
Plastic Mermaids share their self-produced and directed video for ‘Drømtorp,’ ahead of playing Bestival on their home turf, the Isle of Wight. They are set to play twice on the Friday edition of the festival – the Matua Wines stage at 2pm and the Bandstand at 8pm.
The video, shot on the Isle, is another insight into the five-piece’s unique and whimsical world. Previous self-directed video ‘Polaroids’ had them compared to renowned director Michel Gondry –
‘Drømtorp’ is taken from their debut EP of the same, which was released earlier this year on the revered Cross Keys Records to critical acclaim.
The experimental five-piece has since spent the summer playing festivals and working on new music. They’ve made a name for their stage production, which involve handmade sets, projections, samples from films and occasionally inviting string sections and choirs to join them on stage.
Expect to hear more from Plastic Mermaids soon.
