A name like Post Sex Nachos practically dares you not to take the band seriously. That thought lasts about one song.

Opening for The Strumbellas on Saturday night at Anthology, the Nashville-based indie-band launched its 40-minute set with “S.O.S.,” a straight up statement of confidence. Built on power-pop energy and an irresistible hook, it showcased the band’s gift for infectious, upbeat songs.

From there, Post Sex Nachos balanced dance-floor instincts with sharp songwriting, weaving together flashes of roller-rink disco, lively guitar-and-keyboard interplay, and understated white-boy funk. Their live show stripped away some of the glossy production found on the studio recordings, replacing it with the immediacy of a live band, giving the tunes extra weight without sacrificing their bounce.

My favorite of the night was “A Lot to Lose,” a standout that carried a subtle country vibe, broadening the band’s sonic palette without feeling like a detour. It was a reminder that beneath the grooves is a group comfortable letting melodies do the heavy lifting.

There’s little wasted motion in Post Sex Nachos’ set. The material is strong, the band is tight, and frontman Sammy Elfanbaum connected with the audience in between songs.

Post Sex Nachos is a good young band that’s only going to get better.
