About

Pussy Riot have sent us a note with this new “Bad Apples” track:

“Hey comrades. Hope you are not going to like our new track, since it’s dedicated to really disgusting things. Hope you will turn it off, go out and act.

We’re sort of confused about the fact that the most of songs we hear are circling around romantic feelings and friday parties, although only rare tracks are dedicated to not less important topics such as a) climate change, b) gun control, c) arrests of political activists, d) structural inequality e) sexism f) killer cops, brutality and abuse of power that state institutions commit on a daily basis g) urgent need of good-quality accessible healthcare and education.

Mediazona, our activist media agency, posts news that you’d rather not read – endless criminal cases for reposts and for participation in rallies, brutal tortures of our fellow activists in secret FSB prisons, kidnapping and beatings of gay people in Chechnya, murders of Kremlin’s opponents. State violence that we’re forced to experience and think about every day. That’s why almost all our our tracks are about bad apples.”

You may have heard of Pussy Riot cause they spent 2 years in Russian jail for performing 35-seconds punk prayer in cathedral of Christ the saviour in Moscow. Since Pussy Riot’s release they keep chasing corrupt officials, as well as expose and stand against police brutality.

In 2014 Pussy Riot launched Mediazona, a 100% free-of-censorship independent Russian media agency focusing on law enforcement issues. Conditions in prisons, tortures in police departments and FSB, persecutions of political activists, elections, protests. Activists of Pussy Riot are advocating for the prison reform in Russia and providing help and lawyers to prisoners.

Other Pussy Riot’s law enforcement tracks:
Chaika (a demand to Russian government to immediately fire Russia’s corrupt prosecutor general Yury Chaika)
Make America Great Again (an attempt to prevent the election of D. Trump)
Police State (a call to action for all activists who stand against police brutality and offensive excessive surveillance)
I Can’t Breathe (written in honor of Eric Garner, a man who was brutally killed by cops)

In an additional note, Pussy Riot explained their activist, political and artistic collaborations during their upcoming series of events that are scheduled in a number of  American cities, as well as in Mexico city.

“Hey. Pussy Riot has never done normal concerts in usual sense of this word, and we intend to continue this tradition. Events that we organize are political rallies, not concerts. We intend to make the audience leave the venue or the festival, and to go out and act.

We’re glad to announce that a number of fucking amazing grass root activists organizations and politically charged artists agreed to share the stage with us.

Together we’re standing for (this applies for both Russia and the US):

– gender, racial, climate justice
– press that’s free of censorship, we have the right to know what’s up with our world
– stop excessive mass surveillance
– fight the centralization of power, when the few decide for everybody how they gonna live, whether this particle of 1% are Russian ex-KGB corrupt autocrats or American monopolized corporate power
– healthcare, education, housing and food as human rights, decommodifying necessities; tuition free education for all
– criminal justice reform
– support for previously incarcerated people
– elimination of the prison industrial complex
– public funding for elections
– putting people & our planet first.

Pussy Riot + Dave Sitek “Bad Apples” lyrics:
you thought that i just made this for the club / no way
i got this microphone to wake you up / and say
that i can do just what i want right here / today
and i don’t hear those sirens anyway / ok
damn fools
drunk on power
dirty thieves, tiny cowards
you wouldn’t act like this in front of your kids / NO !
you wouldn’t act like this in front of your kids / NO !
you say that you don’t like my attitude / it’s true
i made its just for me and not for you / boo hoo
you can cry until your face turns blue / you knew
that i would be the one to watch you lose / woo hoo
your back’s against the wall what will you do? doo doo
i would join our gang if i were you / oo oo
we always stick together like a glue / it’s true
there are many more of us than you
damn fools
drunk on power
dirty thieves, tiny cowards
you wouldn’t act like this in front of your kids / NO !
you wouldn’t act like this in front of your kids / NO !
bad apples are good for something
when’re 6 feet underground  x2
killer cops – lock em up
the death machine – just lock it up
all this violence – lock it up
the rest of us have had enough
hatred – lock it up
populism – lock it up
fuck corruption – lock it up
enough
bad apples are good for something
when’re 6 feet underground x2
no! don’t need no bad apples
no! won’t eat those bad apples
