REYNA’s new single ‘Coachella’ is OUT NOW.
The song is accompanied by a self-directed video that premiered on Billboard (Online) today. The song is taken from their much anticipated upcoming debut EP set to be released this year. The single reflects happier times at Coachella last year and juxtaposed with the beginning of the end of a relationship, coupled with Mariachi trumpets and signature pop sound. The music video will be part of VEVO’s Emerging Artists/Best New Emerging Artists UK Playlist as well
“We were at Coachella last year and we had the most amazing experience and the time of our lives. When we got home and back to reality, we would joke with each other and say ‘we were so happy at Coachella’. This was also around the time that I started having problems in my previous relationship. When I think of Coachella now I think of the lifelong memories we made but I also look back, and can see the beginning of the end of my relationship. It’s bittersweet.” – Vic Banuelos, REYNA
As Mexican Americans, incorporating their Latin heritage into their visuals has always been very important and palpable, so for the first time, this single sees them incorporate their native Spanish language into the primarily English language track admittedly feeling hesitation because they didn’t feel “American enough for Americans or Mexican enough for Mexicans” but ultimately committed to their convictions, not shying away from being from two worlds/cultures – A BEAUTIFUL THING.
About REYNA
Before they were churning out glossy ‘80s-inspired electro-pop as REYNA, Milwaukee sisters Vic Banuelos and Gabby Banuelos, formerly known as the duo Vic and Gab, were on the indie-pop fast track as one of the city’s fastest-rising independent bands. In 2015, they decided to change their name to REYNA (a play on the Spanish word for queen) ushering in a new era and carrying a regal name to boot. The new moniker has come to “represent their culture, their community and the inspiration powerful women brings to our lives.”
REYNA has already had an exceptional past year with the release of their debut music video – the duo was graced with praise from MTV and a Twitter endorsement from fellow sister-duo Tegan & Sara. The duo has also garnered praise from Rolling Stone, Billboard Pride, i-D, NPR, Gay Times, LogoTV/NewNowNext, EARMILK, NYLON and more, as well as being declared a song of the summer by Chicago Tribune. Additionally, REYNA has earned tastemaker support from MTV, Music Week, Beats1 and opened for artists such as CHVRCHES, Kesha and X Ambassadors.
