Richard Hawley – Down In The woods’ (Released 16 July)

Following the huge success of the first release on the Richard Hawley Singles Club ‘Leave Your Body Behind You’ the next single ‘Down In The Woods’ is upon us.  The Singles Club is a set of four 10” singles being released throughout the next 12 months (more information available ).

The latest instalment was written as a response to the collation government’s early doors plan to sell off the UK’s ancient woodlands. Richard invites you “into the dark woods, to enjoy it while you can”. Still a very good point, although that particular plan was thwarted, ominous rumblings are still bubbling, for us at With Guitars, still cannot believe their inept lunacy, but remain calm as the singer prefers to focus on the positive, outrage aside, it’s the draw of the woodlands, that is his main focus, the end result the single is a great guitar driven number. Good to hear all three versions, the single edit, album version, and an instrumental, which brings across just how strong and structured the music is, enough chords, bass and snare beats to satisfy, considering it is only the former Pulp man and Wedding Present courtesy of 2012’s ‘Valentina’ album that have reminded me recently why I love indie rock something I though i would not say since the early to mid 1990’s fanfare.

Following the excitement and critical acclaim surrounding the album and as a result, Richard Hawley’s Single Club, this release should attract even more vinyl collectors for this tasty slice of indie-rock. 8.25/10
