Ata|antA is the brand new single from Dutch-Zimbabwean singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rina Mushonga, forthcoming on [PIAS] recordings. The single is inspired by the Greek mythological figure ‘Atalanta’ in Ovid’s Metamorphosis, famed for her prowess as a huntress, runner and all round embodiment of female strength. This compelling new single stands as a symbol for self-empowerment, transformation and independence.
Recorded in South London, with acclaimed Grammy award winning producer Brett Shaw (Florence & The Machine, Rufus Wainwright, Daughter), the single is also in part influenced by Rina’s recent relocation to London via Harare and Amsterdam. The diversity and energy of Peckham, Rina’s new home, served as a creative impulse for the first home recordings of ‘Ata|antA’.
Rina’s debut album ‘The Wild, The Wilderness’ was released in the Benelux to critical acclaim, gaining her a huge fanbase in the region alongside high profile media appearances and collaborations, including a widely celebrated remix of her hit single Eastern Highlands by sought after producer Joris Voorn.  2016 marked the release of Rina’s ‘Bullet’ EP, a stunning collection of songs taking in a plethora of sounds and textures, from subtle soaring synths to gritty guitar riffs, culminating in euphoric choruses that leave a lasting impression.
The new single ‘Ata|antA’ is first in a series of singles leading up to a 2nd studio album release scheduled for Autumn 2017. ‘Ata|antA’ sonically reflects Rina Mushonga’s Afro-European background and exciting genre-bending inclinations, combining Afropop riffs and heavy beats to create a fresh and unique electro-indie anthem.
