Rio Cinema Kubrick Special Featuring Saint Leonard’s Horses – Sept 15th

Debut album ‘Good Luck Everybody’

Out on 14 October 2016

On Thursday, 15th September 2016, the Rio Cinema in East London will host a very special Kubrick themed night of music and film.

Earlier this year enigmatic indie artist Saint Leonard had the privilege of being able to record his debut album at the estate of Stanley Kubrick in St Albans, the very house  where many of his films were shot. To begin the evening Saint Leonard’s Horses will play a live show of the material recorded there. This will be followed by a short film ‘You, Me & Ulysses‘ charting the remarkable journey of the album that led up to auspicious recording at the estate. This will be followed by the main feature showing of Kubrick’s timely comedic masterpiece ‘Dr Strangelove’.As edgy and hilarious as it was 50 years ago, its message is all the more poignant in light of current global events.  There will be aftershow drinks and an informal Q and A with the team behind the record; special guest DJ’s and undoubtedly quite a lot to talk and dance about in Nan’s Cocktail Bar directly beneath the cinema. All the info is below.

Saint Leonard’s Horses’ debut album ‘Good Luck Everybody’ will be released on 14th October 2016 through Xtra Mile Recordings. It’s a record that started life in the Hollywood Hills with a detour through the Mojave Desert, a cabin in Nashville, and a gothic church on the Yorkshire moors, and that ended up being recorded at Childwickbury Manor in St Albans, the former home of director Stanley Kubrick. It’s an ungodly collision of big country sound and misty isle musings – as thrilling a listen as is the story of its conception.

Produced by Nick Trepka and engineered by Jack Hobbs in a studio adjacent to Kubrick’s study, it allowed Saint Leonard to absorb the creative energy that has bounced around the building. Putting sounds down in the place where parts of famed movies The Shining and Eyes Wide Shut were filmed, as well as drawing inspiration from filmic memorabilia that has found resting places there, has lent an ominous quality to the record.

A cinematic album performed live at the Rio Cinema, alongside a screening of the Stanley Kubrick classic ‘Dr Strangelove’,  submerge yourself in the strange and esoteric world of Saint Leonard’s Horses.
