Severin – ‘Macabea’ (Trip Top Recordings. Released 29th may 2012)

Pleasing introduction to Severin and their new download single ‘Macabea ’the London duo are described as “noise pop electronica, as good as any umbrella description. Severin are Danny Sanchez (guitars / noise) and Elizabeth Anne Martin (beats / guitars). What they produce sits comfortably, we are taking a little distortion, electronic keys and guitars run with noise layered over broken beats, with a slightly sugary vocal. As soon as you mention noise and the word distortion in the same review, I must point out that this is not on the scale of the feedback noise of Jesus And The Mary Chain which is no slight on the duo.

Produced very ably by Rory Attwell who I remember having production duties with Yuck to good effect, also I find that he also worked on releases by Test icicles, Teeth and Kasms.

Severin serve up music that will see many converts on the strength of this clarion call. They are touring with GHXST in June (see related posts). Already wanting more. 8/10
