SHEL Unleashes Its DIY Creativity in New Music Video
March 9, 2018 (Nashville, TN) – Alt-folk quartet SHEL has released its unique new music video “Let Me Do,” premiering exclusively today with Tom Tom, a magazine dedicated to featuring female drummers. “SHEL never fails to put out catchy tunes that challenge even the most versed musical palette,” says Tom Tom’s Founder & Editor Mindy Abovitz Monk. “‘Let Me Do’ is no exception. Toe tapping beats, lyrics to get behind and a reason to get up and dance. Get into this song!” “Let Me Do” can be heard on SHEL’s album, Just Crazy Enough, which was co-produced by six-time Grammy Award winner Brent Maher and music icon Dave Stewart (of the Eurythmics).
“I woke up one morning with a vision of my head trapped inside a wearable dollhouse,” recalls Eva Holbrook of SHEL. “My first thought was ‘That would make a killer music video, I bet I could build that.’ It took me a week to construct, and as soon as it was finished I began painting my bedroom with Wonderland tones so we could film in there.”
SHEL is returning to Colorado this month for performances in Beaver Creek at the Vilar Performing Arts Center on March 23, as well as in its hometown of Fort Collins at Washington’s the following night. SHEL continues to tour in support of its latest releases, including 2016’s Just Crazy Enough LP and last year’s covers EP, Undercover.
SHEL’s sound is filled with the hypnotic vocals and infectious rhythms of the four Holbrook sisters. The sisters meld together their classical training and diverse influences for a result that is mesmerizing. Raised in Colorado, they grew up on an old trailer park that the family restored and turned into a farm. It was an unconventional upbringing, but one that certainly contributed to the group’s creativity.
SHEL has become known for its stunning musicianship with Sarah on violin and guitar; Hannah on keys, synth, and bass; Eva on mandolin and guitar; and Liza on drums, djembe, and beatboxing. The sisters have received rave reviews for their quirky style, both on stage and in their imaginative music videos.
The group has an extensive tour history across the U.S. and Europe, playing everything from small club shows, to major festivals, and even sharing the stage with world-renowned orchestras. SHEL’s songs can also be heard in numerous films, TV shows, and commercials including The Best of Me, The Fourth Phase, Charged, the trailer for Women In Sports, Shameless (Showtime), The Fosters (Freeform), Riverdale (Netflix), Search Party (TBS), and many more.
