Essex-based four piece She’s In Parties unleash their latest single ‘The Times’, a pensive indie rock tune detailing lead vocalist Katie’s social media focused frustrations that come with being a musician in the 21st century. This single acts as a third glance into their upcoming EP, Puppet Show, which is set for release on 25th October via Submarine Cat Records. The track also comes with a Polocho directed video sure to tug on your heartstrings, and the announcement of a UK tour taking place this November – buy tickets here.
“This song is about my internal battle with this new era of social media we live in,” Katie explains. “The lyrics “rewrite your mind” pretty much just mean that I need to rethink what I thought being a musician was like, and get with “the times”. If I don’t do it, somebody else will.”
“One voice tells me they can “take it all away” if we don’t use social media to try and make it as a band. Another voice tells me to “rewrite” my mind, so maybe it’s not so bad to use this new tool of promotion.”

She’s In Parties are a hazy and ethereal quartet whose own idiosyncratic amalgamation of shoegaze and dream-pop belies their relatively young years. The band is led by Irish-born frontperson Katie Dillon (vocals/guitar), alongside her friends Herbie Wiseman (guitar), Matt Carman (drums), and Charlie Johnson (bass). Taking their cues from the likes of Slowdive, Cocteau Twins and The Cure, the band harbour a sense of nostalgia certainly, but they avoid feeling derivative. Instead, they succeed in marrying the classic and the contemporary, resulting in an aesthetic that’s both haunting, and effortlessly cool.
Last year saw the band release their highly-anticipated debut EP End Scene, as well as play to packed out rooms alongside Bleach Lab, DEADLETTER, Panic Shack and Hockey Dad, and a number of festivals across the country. They’ve received numerous broadcast acclaim across BBC Radio and TV, with ‘Summer Haze’ featuring on Match Of The Day & & FIFA Women’s World Cup, having had two singles make B-List playlist on 6Music, alongside presenter support from Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq & Craig Charles and BBC Radio 1’s Jack Saunders, Gemma Bradley & Alyx Holcombe.
The upcoming EP is the band’s most politically driven body music yet. “It’s a timeless topic, people have always and will always sing about injustices, often though, people want an escape and sing about things like love because sometimes that’s easier than telling the truth.” Katie says, “I’m certainly not a political person and would opt for escapism in music, but sometimes there are things that happen in our society or on social media that you just can’t avoid. They’ve been plaguing my mind especially, so I’ve been writing about this stuff a lot more and it has now become a prevalent theme in this next EP.”
Puppet Show sees the band in their most lyrically mature state yet. It tackles post coming of age worries and the existential realisation of the world’s issues from social media, to wars, and personal anxieties of feeling helpless to it all. Produced by Stephen Street (The Cranberries & The Smiths), the EP sees the band explore their love for 80s music with quirky synth riffs and experimental guitar sounds.
