“In honour of tomorrow’s events in Dublin, Ireland surrounding the re-enactment of the funeral of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa, we’re delighted to be able to bring you Sinead O’Connor’s recording of ‘The Foggy Dew’. It was mastered this evening and sent over to us by Sinead about ten minutes ago so you’re getting this at the first available opportunity!”
Fresh from the studio a folk song celebrating and lamenting the life and loss of Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa, was a renowned leader of the Fenian movement in the 19th Century seeking independence from Britain. Hundreds will walk in the footsteps of the leaders of 1916,100 years to the day, in a full scale re-enactment of the O’Donovan Rossa funeral in 1915.
A simple, evocative lament giving gravitas by Sinead’s strong vocal. With the scale of remembrance for Jeremiah O’Donovan Rossa, ‘The Foggy Dew’ may well be celebrated, for us the song represents an impassioned vocal the brings thoughts of times long ago, before all of us, but does not dim the resonance. 8/10
The Foggy Dew’ will be released as a free download in a week or so.
