UNDERCOVER FESTIVAL (II) 2014

19 / 20 /21 September 2014 / Bisley Pavilion nr Woking Surrey WWW.UNDERCOVERFEST.COM 07872173651

GENTLEMENS DUB CLUB / PENETRATION / SPEAR OF DESTINY / UK SUBS / THE MEN THEY COULDNT HANG / THE DUALERS AND SO MUCH MORE

A 60 BAND MULTI GENRE FESTIVAL OF Punk / Ska / Northern / Dub / Reggae / Glam / Retro / Indie & Acoustic + 60 bands + some cracking DJs + what more can you ask for? (for full line up see Editors Notes!).

A festival of many established acts plus a rich array of talent that is getting noticed on the live circuit today or will be soon.

Set in and around the unique setting of Bisley Pavilion, Bisley Camp nr Woking Surrey, a festival venue and experience that defies all other conventions and festival templates.

We are looking forward to the 2nd Undercover Festival which will be bigger and better than 2013.

We are pleased that like last year the festival is packed with local talent including several emerging bands that are under 18; watch and wonder.

FRI 19TH SEPT boasts a line up packed with talent across both stages.  Perennial Punk Rockers CHELSEA (Right to work etc) will close proceedings on stage II, while GENTLEMEN’S DUB CLUB close the main stage for the evening.  For GDC think the energy and passion of an early Specials gig blended with Dreadzone but younger and with a twist and you have GDC, preceding them are another lively 9 piece band NEW TOWN KINGS a Ska – Rocksteady – Reggae outfit that also have to be seen.  Along with many other acts including punk legends MENACE AND TV SMITH (from the Adverts). Day one (like the rest of the weekend) at Undercover Festival is packed with bands of all ages and genres (many local) including bands ready to breakthrough to entertain and delight.

SAT 20TH SEPT We have “THE BIG FOUR” JOINT HEADLINERS – Penetration / Spear Of Destiny / UK Subs / The Men They Couldn’t Hang all backed up with a mouth watering array of talent across both stages that any alternative festival would give their right arm for.  PENETRATION one of THE original 1976 punk bands; still fronted by PAULINE MURRAY their first single “Don’t Dictate” became an instant hit this and the landmark first album “Moving Targets” set the standard that other New Wave bands had to follow. Check them out you will not be disappointed !!  SPEAR OF DESTINY established in 1983 by singer and songwriter KIRK BRANDON after the demise of Theatre Of Hate.  SPEAR OF DESTINY, released a series of fine albums in ‘Grapes Of Wrath’, ‘World Service’ and ‘One Eyed Jacks’ considered a classic by many.  Their stage show is considered to be one of the best on the scene today. Welcoming UK SUBS to Undercover Festival in their 5th decade in which the UK SUBS have continually graced the Punk Rock scene. Led by the indefatigable Charlie Harper (now venerated as the godfather of UK punk), the band formed, late in 1976 has continued and thrived. Touring worldwide for 35 plus years, they maintain and pioneer the true spirit of punk rock, without the compromise and watering-down that has affected so many of their contemporaries. 2014 is THE MEN THEY COULDNT HANG’s 30th anniversary! That’s a long time since ‘Green Fields of France’, their epic debut recording, went to number 1 in the Independent Music Chart. It’s also 30 years since the Miner’s strike; encapsulated so poignantly in the band’s ‘Shirt of Blue’, its meaning always subtly shifting with the times. With the exception of a long list of drummers, the line-up has remained the same since 1986.

Even before we get to the “Big Four” and the Headliner on Stage II THE TALKS a cracking young ska outfit from Hull with a huge reputation, we have a line up that is worth the entrance fee alone.  999 formed in 1976 and are one of the longest going punk bands on the scene today. Homicide, Nasty Nasty, Emergency, are the anthems of many a punk from those bygone days. DEPARTMENT S never fail to give a 110% performance. “ Is Vic There” along with “Going Left Right” are two of many Dept S songs that many remember with fondness from back in the day. STONE FOUNDATION are steeped in the traditions of Northern Soul but with a pleasing twist all the way from the Midlands (via Detriot and back again). We defy anyone not to be entertained or tap their feet to Stone Foundation back in Surrey after a successful set at GuilFest.

SUN 21ST SEPT closing the main stage for the weekend will be Ska & Reggae favourites THE DUALERS. An unknown act in 2004 (not now), they became the first street performers ever to achieve a chart position, selling more records that week than some internationally well-known artists. With no backing or publicity, the key to this success was The Dualers’ ever-growing, increasingly dedicated fan-base and impressive shows; Enjoy.  Closing stage II for the weekend are XSLF ( X STIFF LITTLE FINGERS) belting out the anthems of a generation “Alternative Ulster” Suspect Device” to name but a few and backed up by a very strong line up on both stages that like the other 2 days on their own are worth the trip and then some.  Ubiquitous Punksters SPIZZENERGI with many a tune dear to the heart including “Wheres Captain Kirk” topped the inaugural indie chart back in 1980 and the band are still as lively today as back then. GOLDBLADE Goldblade have played festivals all over the world and toured everywhere from Europe to the USA to Russia and even places like Algeria, they have supported the Prodigy, The Stranglers, The Damned, Rancid, Offspring, Steve Ignorent’s Crass on the US tour, New Modal Army, Stiff Little Fingers, Ian Brown (per special request from ian), The Fall and many others as well constanlty doing their own headline tours.Frontman John Robb is also famous for his TV and radio work, his music website Louderthanwar (one of the top 5 music websites in the UK) and best selling books on Manchester music, punk rock and the Stone Roses, have played festivals all over the world and toured everywhere from Europe to the USA to Russia. Frontman John Robb is also famous for his TV and radio work.

Please note: For the avoidance of any doubt The Undercover Festival is not an open air festival – the festival will be held in 2 rooms plus other areas at the Bisley Pavilion nr Woking Surrey –  undercover by nature of the music policy of this festival and undercover – well because it is….
