Skynet – The Wild (EP (Transcend Music)

Canada is a fantastic country in my eyes. The gave us TV shows such as the 90’s crime show Due South about a Mountie, wrestling legends such as Bret and Owen Hart and bands like Alexisonfire and Cancer Bats, but now they are giving us Skynet.

Much like their Canadian counterparts Skynet are all about the riff, the attitude and the scream whilst providing a heave ensemble from beginning to end. There sophomore release “The Wild” is filled with seven tracks that are no holds barred at all.

Opening track ‘A Coin On Each Eye’ starts things off in style and from that moment onwards Skynet don’t take their foot off the gas. There is a reasoning why these four Canadians are being described as decent. They are bringing the essence of hardcore to the table but then layering it with a much darker edge and attitude.

Skynet are not just focusing on breakdowns and being just another heavy band, there is actual lyrical as well as musical depth, these songs aren’t just about a guy bitching because his girlfriend dumped him. Closing track ‘The Wild’ which is also the EP’s title has a hook ridden ending which sticks in your head and makes you think.

I advise that you keep your eyes on this band. 7.8/10
