SL returns with brand new single, ‘Gigantalous’

There’s more to the mask than meets the eye where SL is concerned. The Peckham-born, Croydon-raised rapper represents a new wave of British youth culture, borne out of the cross-pollination of genres: rugged street narratives met with intricate, at times serene instrumentals. As you might guess from his breakthrough viral hit, ‘Tropical’, for now SL describes his sound as ‘tropical drill’: it’s melodic, conversational and tongue-in-cheek, but twisted via an upbringing influenced by golden-age rap like Wu-Tang Clan, DMX, and Jay Z. After releasing his debut project ‘Everything Good Is Bad’ in April of this year, SL today returns with a brand new single, ‘Gigantalous’.

Produced by Two Inch Punch (Tory Lanez/Ty Dolla $ign/Kali Uchis), Gigantalous finds SL bringing listeners into a typical day in his life. Employing his unique, laid back flow over the track’s melodic, rumbling instrumental to depict fiends, girls, and the world around him, ‘Gigantalous’ utilises an irresistible hook, with SL twisting the language at well for the very rare moments where he’s lost for words. The track’s Kaylum Dennis directed visual brings to life SL’s own vision of his surroundings, featuring vivid animation and high octane motorcycles while directly referencing his earlier output – in particular the ‘Gentleman’ visual, which currently sits on over 29m views.

With ‘Gigantalous’, SL progresses his sound into even more unique territory, extending his golden touch further. An enigmatic figure with a growing reputation as one of the finest young artists in the UK, even this early on his career, SL has shown that he doesn’t want to be confined to one story, one sound (or one mask).
