SLC’s indie-soul artist Anthony Pena shares dreamy Prince-inspired debut album ‘4
Salt Lake City indie-soul artist Anthony Pena, who recently released his dreamy debut album 4 via 6149 Distribution. Anthony’s solo music began after returning to his home of Salt Lake City a few years ago, where he’s since embraced his love for soul music, built his own studio, and begun releasing music under his birthname to, as he said, “step back into himself.”
While Anthony wrote, performed, engineered, produced, and mixed his new music out of his studio, he also enlisted an all-star team for additional recording, instrumentation, and mastering. He worked in Nashville with Andrew Goldring (Mini Trees, Wilby, more), in Brooklyn with Vishal Nayak (Nick Hakim, Helena Deland, more) — who performed drums on the record — and enlisted Chris Gehringer (The Last Dinner Party, Turnstile, more) for mastering.
You can find the album here via this smartlink, here on Bandcamp, andhere via DISCO(includes the option to download). You can also find the latest press release here, which includes assets and additional info on the record.

The Big Takeover shared his last single (“M4TH”), writing that it’s “a soulful longing,” Atwood Magazine announced the album (with “H.T.S.”), saying Pena offers “a soulful and seductive meditation on self-trust, restraint, and the long road back to alignment.” Remezcla shared his previous name’s single, “Grave” (also on the album), writing, “Showing off mighty amounts of Prince soul with a dash of Glen Hansard folk tones […] his emotions break through like sunlight through haze.”
Pena said, “Toto Peña started the record, and Anthony Pena finished it. I began working on the record in 2022, when I moved back to my hometown of Salt Lake City, which forced me to get real about my outlook on life and connect me to my roots. I grew up in West Valley City, UT, to immigrant parents, and creating music has been my compass to the greater world. Music has served as a roadmap in my life, ultimately leading me back home and to embrace my birthname.”
