Today, slowthai shares the video for his new single ‘Gorgeous’ taken from his much-anticipated debut album ‘Nothing Great About Britain’ (out 17^thMay 2019).

The nostalgic visual encapsulates slowthai’s life growing up in Northampton. Born on a council estate where the sense of community is unbreakable, slowthai narrates his daily life and takes us through his favourite places including Northampton Town F.C, the local boxing gym and a snooker hall.

Director’s The Rest read local police branding kids as a ‘dangerous bike gang’ on social media and reached out to them to be included in the video. The kids on bikes in the park are reflective of slowthai’s younger self, but now those bikes have turned into cars sitting outside Mcdonalds. It’s a story that relates to a lot of working class communities throughout England and the UK. Outwardly a generation with limited expectations perceived to be dangerous by the police, but they too can be ‘Gorgeous’ and the video wants to celebrate this. Speaking on the video slowthai said:

“Reflect and feel ugly. Compare to see the worst, the truths we’ve learnt taking turns, chucking stones in glass homes, gorgeous. with self worth, you’re gorgeous, with self worth, you’re gorgeous.”
