Sneaker Pimps – Becoming X (One Little Indian)

Foolishly fucked into the trip hop fold. Sneaker Pimps are much more. Compared to Agent Provocateur but where their turgid dirge stinks, the Pimps shit shines. They are like The Prodigy punk rock through electronics. Check the defiant drum n bass antics ‘Tesko Suicide’, the sinister cynicism of ‘Spin Spin Sugar’, makes Portishead boring – this is real drama. The breakdown of the painful crying in the middle is truly harrowing.

Whilst the likes of Tricky and Money Mark waste their time and ours with muso abstraction bile. Sneaker Pimps are left of center with hummable tunes like post modern sleaze which surely started like as ‘O Father’ by Madonna.Yes it does get a little Alanis in places, nut where she needs a slap in the face, Sneaker Pimps deserve one on the back, for daring to be different, 8.8/10
