Sodom – ‘Epitome of Torture’
Over the years numerous three pieces have impacted the world of alternative music in a way that it never recovers from, two of these bands being acts such as Nirvana and Motorhead. Soon a new band will be in this category and this band goes by the name of Sodom.
One of the latest offerings from the Steamhammer/SPV family Epitome of Torture by Sodom will be released in Europe on April 29th and then soon after it will be available across the world. Sodom play a brand of thrash like metal that is about much more than drinking beer, getting pissed and fucking groupies like so many of their predecessors.
This album defines the category of thrash metal whilst throwing a little curve ball into the mix. Not every song is at break neck speed where you expect all band members as well as their audience to head bang and windmill through out. Sodom also experiment with some impressive grooves and down beat vibes on this, their upcoming release.
An example of these grooves is in their track Cannibal where Sodom deviate through out from slow grooves to in your face thrash reminiscent of the late 1980’s. Another example of this diverse styling is their track Invocating The Demons. This track proves that Sodom’s drummer Markus Freiwald is to put it lightly a fucking machine.
If you like your music loud and abrasive but with a slight twist on the standard metal formulae then I would suggest giving this three piece wrecking machine a listen. 8.8/10
