Alt-prog solo artist Maxi Curnow debuts video and announces debut LP
Unique new solo artist Maxi Curnow has debuted a new music video and announced details of his debut LP, Transition, out December 06.
Inspired by the likes of Jeff Buckley, John Mayer, Karnivool, film music and jazz, Maxi is also a firefighter in his day life. Transition is written in relation to his daily experiences with loss of life and its opposite, human resiliency. Each track directly relates to these moments – as in the music video above which was made with the help and support of the Fire Rescue Service, and in conjunction with the Safe Drive Stay Alive initiative.
Transition is a cultured and cultivated mixture of progressive rock, soulful guitarwork, groove rock and jazz-inflected ballads. From the heart-pounding opener ‘If We Make It’, to the cinematic ‘Sink or Swim’, the album is an impressively balanced and varied work, and sits comfortably within the alternative and modern prog rock worlds. Maxi’s multi-layered influences are worn openly, with appearances from trumpets, strings, Fender Rhodes piano contributing to the unique overall sound.
The album was co-produced by Forrester Savell (Karnivool, Dead Letter Circus), and mixed and mastered by Acle Kahney (TesseracT) and Luke Martin (Plini) and with musical contributions from Mike Malyan (Monuments).
