Sparrows – ‘Mark of The Beast: Indoctrination’ EP

When I think of Dallas Texas I think of either working men sitting on their front step in the beating sun, drinking a cold beer after a hard days work or about the classic television sitcom Dallas and who shot JR. The last thing that comes across my mind is any form of black metal.

For a person who isn’t too big on black metal I have to say that this six track EP isn’t bad at all. It is filled to the brim with grooves, stops, starts and a vocal style that is set to scare the shit out of you. If it doesn’t then you my friend have an iron bowel.
This EP is the first of three to be released of which all three have some kind of link but that link will not be divulged until after the final EP has been released. These are some damn crafty Texans. Unlike standard death metal Sparrows have an underlying sense of melody that flows through out each track.

Although this EP is in no way ground breaking it’s a refreshing change to get something sent through that is extremely heavy but at the same time listenable. Go to sparrowsmetal.bandcamp.com and check out these big death metal players. 7.8/10
