SPEEDY ORTIZ SIGN TO CARPARK RECORDS; DEBUT LP ‘MAJOR ARCANA’ OUT 8TH JULY

Carpark is extremely pleased to announce that Speedy Ortiz has signed to the label will be issuing their debut full-length, ‘Major Arcana’, on 8th July. Formed in early 2012, the Western Massachusetts four-piece originally started off as the bedroom recording project of Sadie Dupuis (ex-Quilty) but quickly blossomed into one of the Boston DIY scene’s most respected bands, their energetic and noisy live shows earning them a devout following. A self-released 7”, and the loosely conceptual 10” ‘Sports’ EP followed, paving the way for their latest ‘Ka-Prow!’ / ‘Hexxy Sadie’ single that was recently released via Inflated Records.

‘Major Arcana’ marks the evolution of Speedy Ortiz into a wholly collaborative effort. Bassist Darl Ferm (ex-Day Sleeper), drummer Mike Falcone (Dead Wives, Ovlov), guitarist Matt Robidoux (ex-Graph, Banjo Assault), and Sadie Dupuis on vocals and guitar recorded the album in November 2012 at Justin Pizzoferrato’s (Chelsea Light Moving, Dinosaur Jr.) studio, Sonelab. The huge space in an old factory set the stage for many long sessions allowing the band to experiment and further solidify their sound. It’s easy to hear the influences of Helium, Jawbox, and Chavez, on this album, as well as nods to their contemporaries including Grass Is Green, Pile, and Roomrunner, but their sound remains playful, modern, and decidedly their own.
