Legendary British band Squeeze have announced their brand new tour, ‘The Difford And Tilbrook Songbook 2019’, will be in support of The Trussell Trust.
At all venues on the tour there will be multiple food drop points and collection boxes, where people can donate non-perishable food and goods or money. Food donated at the venues will be collected and distributed to the nearest Trussell Trust foodbank.
Glenn Tilbrook, whose solo shows over the last 5 months, as well as a run of dates with Wilko Johnson, have been raising food and funds for The Trussell Trust, says “It’s disgraceful that in 2019 people can’t afford to put even the most basic food on the table. I’ve been so humbled and moved by the generosity and compassion of the people coming to the gigs and donating. So far, more than 1.5 tonnes of food has been raised for those that need it, and I can’t wait to see how much we can achieve when Squeeze tour later in the year.”
Chris Difford adds “Like Glenn I can’t wait to see what can be achieved at our shows in the UK this Autumn. Glenn very much inspired this idea and it beggars belief that people in this day and age have to feed themselves from a food bank.”
Foodbanks provide a minimum of three-days’ nutritionally balanced, non-perishable tinned and dried foods that have been donated by the local community. A list of items in a typical food parcel are: cereal, soup, pasta, rice, tinned tomatoes/pasta sauce, lentils, beans and pulses, tinned meat, tinned vegetables, tea/coffee, tinned fruit, biscuits, UHT milk and fruit juice. If possible audience members are asked to check with local foodbanks to see what supplies are currently needed.
Lauded as a song writing duo, Difford and Tilbrook have been compared to Lennon and McCartney since their first release in 1978 – ‘Take Me I’m Yours’ – which blasted Squeeze into the forefront of the UK music scene. Following up with hits such as ‘Cool For Cats’, ‘Up The Junction’, ‘Goodbye Girl’, “Pulling Mussels From The Shell”, “Tempted”, and so many more, Squeeze established themselves as not just a passing footnote in New Wave history, but as an important and vital part of quintessential British music. These hits also established Difford and Tilbrook as some of the most prolific writers of their time, with both amassing a wealth of melody rich earworms over the past four decades, both as Squeeze and also in their solo work too. ‘The Difford and Tilbrook Songbook 2019’ is a tour that will capture the works of two of the most talented songsmiths working today.

The Trussell Trust:
The Trussell Trust is an anti-poverty charity that supports a network of over 420 foodbanks across the UK.
In 2017-2018, 1,332,952 three day emergency food supplies were provided to people referred to foodbanks in The Trussell Trust’s network, a 13% increase on the previous year. Over a third of supplies (484,026) went to children.
It takes more than food to end hunger. The Trussell Trust therefore does three things: supports its network to provide emergency food to people referred; helps foodbanks to provide on-site additional help or signpost people to relevant local charities to resolve the cause of foodbank referral; and brings together the experiences of hundreds of communities on the frontline to challenge the structural issues that lock people in poverty and campaign for long-term change so we can see a future without the need for foodbanks.
