STAND UP TO CANCER AT UNION CHAPEL FEBRUARY 1ST, 2016 WITH KODALINE, JAMES MORRISON AND MORE
Feb 1st 2016 will see a very special night of musical entertainment at the iconic Union Chapel, London, to raise money for Stand Up To Cancer, a joint national fundraising campaign from Cancer Research UK and Channel 4. Kodaline will take the headline slot on the evening, which will see exclusive stripped-back performances from the Dublin band alongside a plethora of incredible musical talent; James Morrison, Seafret, Dagny, and Daniel James. The compere for the evening will be esteemed TV and radio presenter Edith Bowman.
Stand Up To Cancer raises vital funds to support scientists working in NHS hospitals, cancer centres, universities and institutes, speeding up research to get treatments and tests to UK patients who so desperately need them.
Performances on the night will come from…
Irish band Kodaline, are one of the big success stories from of the last two years. Their emotive and original sound, such as hit singles ‘The One’, ‘High Hopes’ and ‘Love Like This’ has a resounding impact on the listener. Having toured the globe with their second album ‘Coming Up For Air’, the follow-up to their platinum selling debut ‘In A Perfect World’ through RCA Victor, they will perform an exclusive stripped back set for Stand Up To Cancer.
Having spent the last four years away from the limelight, James Morrison made a welcome return with his fourth studio album, the top ten hit, ‘Higher Than Here’, this autumn through Island Records. The songs on the new album create a subtle balance between revealing the pain and difficulties that Morrison has experienced in his recent personal life, and the soundtrack to those lazy Sunday mornings that, will make you dance, smile and reflect. James has sold over 4.5 million copies of his previous three albums and performed four world tours.
It’s a rare thing when a band’s name perfectly encapsulates their music. Flip open a dictionary at ‘sea fret’ and you’ll find it’s the term for the mist that rolls inshore from the sea. Then pick any one of the Bridlington duo’s tracks and breathe in the delicately plucked acoustics, the gentle haze of rippling electronics, whispering strings and melancholic vocals. Seafret’s debut album ‘Tell Me It’s Real’ will be released on January 29 through Sweet Jane/Columbia Records.
‘Songbird from the North‘ Dagny – is an artist and songwriter from Tromsø, Norway. In many ways, her music reflects her personality – a quirky pop sound infused with a huge dose of youthful optimism.
Hailing from Northern Ireland but now residing in London, Daniel James garnered attention after debuting tracks online. Brought up on his parents’ record collection of David Bowie, Van Morrison and Motown and, an avid documentary film watcher, Daniel takes song inspiration from sourcing topics which he relates back to his own experiences, and conveys through his unmistakable voice and unique take on pop that combines soul, folk and gospel. Having previously supported Hozier and Saint Raymond, he was due to support Sam Smith on his October/November headline tour which unfortunately he had to bow out of when he was diagnosed with cancer in September last year. He was the inspiration for the event.
Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’re really excited about this event and thrilled to have the support of so many wonderful musicians, it’s set to be a great night of entertainment. We’ve made amazing progress against cancer in the past few decades but one in two of us in the UK will develop cancer in our lifetime so we can’t afford to stand still. All the money raised on the night will go directly to Stand Up To Cancer’s work to accelerate new cancer treatments and tests and ultimately it’ll help save more lives.”
