Boston’s Mini Dresses are streaming a new track today, titled “Division” on Stereogum from their upcoming debut self-titled LP, due out September 15, 2017 on Joy Void. Stereogum said of the new track, ” “Division” is the closing track on their new album, and it serves as a languid coda to the whole experience. It’s presented in a glimmering fog, with Lira Mondal’s remarkable voice the only element rendered completely clear.”
Mini Dresses is currently available for pre-order from Joy Void along with a tape of their previously released EPs and singles, which is available now.
Mini Dresses started as a home recording project between longtime songwriting partners Lira Mondal and Caufield Schnug in the summer of 2012 in Austin, TX. After relocating to Boston to pursue their respective careers, they started playing shows with Luke Reed on drums. In the last five years, they have played frequently on the East Coast, opening for such acts as Deerhunter, Weyes Blood, Fear of Men, Chastity Belt, Palehound, Dick Diver, Tacocat, and many others.
Their first self-titled full-length consists of songs from about two years of recording with engineer Ian Doerr. Taking shape in spaces as varied as a nail salon basement to an expansive live room in a warehouse on the outskirts of Boston, the group took advantage of rarely used effects and tape machines. Lyrical themes of the album involve the interior lives of women, their daydreams, while many songs capture moments of technological breakdown.
