Strabe have today released brand new track ‘Breathe Me In’, which is available now on PIAS. The alt-pop duo have also confirmed details of debut EP ‘JUVENOIA’, which will follow on July 22nd. It includes anthemic first single ‘Life On Pause’ (which picked up widespread plaudits and support across 6Music and BBC Introducing), the pulsing electronics of ‘Magic’, plus the now-prophetic ‘Best Worst Year’ (which has surpassed 7 million streams after dropping DIY during the pandemic).

‘Breathe Me In’ is an atmospheric and euphoric love-letter to being all together on the dancefloor, and also sees Strabe celebrate the friends who got you there. The track showcases the band’s hugely sophisticated production – Strabe songs were largely written around student houses across Dublin, and then remotely over lockdown – whilst also paying tribute to their roots (‘Breathe Me In’ features a surprise, blisteringly blues-inspired harmonica solo from their friend Jack).

Unlikely partnerships are at the heart of how Strabe came to be. Four years ago, Angelica (originally from Scotland) was at a music festival in Cork and stepped out – Emmet, who was born and raised in Ireland, didn’t smoke but kept them company anyway. Sitting by the river and chatting about music, the pair quickly realised that they represented the missing part of each other’s project…but failed to swap numbers at the end of the night. Luckily the duo crossed paths again by chance many months later, and formed the band. Both, in their own way, used the band (and the blossoming, unconventional friendship at the heart of it) to work through their own emotional journeys: beginning with ‘Best Worst Year’, a universal but deeply personal offering which continues to take on a life of its own.

This summer, Strabe will release their debut EP, ‘JUVENOIA’ – an immersive and hugely impressive body of work, which soundtracks those chaotic coming-of-age experiences with innate musical maturity. Recent single ‘Life On Pause’ channels Gen Z’s trial-and-error experiences of growing up ‘On Pause’ amidst the pandemic, whilst latest track ‘Magic’ is a full-body rush back to the sweaty, grungy club-world that their sound takes its influence from. Songs elsewhere explore weighty topics – grief; stagnation; sexuality; gender – with Strabe’s soon-to-be-signature lightness of touch.
