The latest single ‘Ring The Bells’ by Straight Lines is taken from their second album ‘Freaks Like Us’ and is due for release on 24thSeptember when they head of on tour around the UK in their own headline gigs and Europe as support for Sonic Boom Six. Straight Lines are Tom Jenkins on guitar and vocals, Dane Campbell on drums, Todd Campbell on bass, and James Pugh on guitar. Formed back in 2009 they did the unconventional by working hard on their recording of the album ‘Persistence In This game’ in Todd’s homemade recording studio before ever setting foot onto a stage. It took them one month but it paid off when the 12 track debut attracted record label Xtra Mile Recordings who were impressed by the bands work ethics and dedication. So with record deal in the bag the band set off to make their name with the live shows. They sort of approached their music career with a check list, make album – check, get record deal – check… not too bad for a bunch of young lads from Pontypridd really.
‘Ring The Bells’ is full of huge sing along choruses with inspirational lyrics and an epic sweep to the instrumentals. The only blip is the screemo bit in the middle as it detracts from what is otherwise a great song. The two B sides are live recordings and really show just how much energy and enthusiasm these guys put into their live performances.
