Toronto “witch punk” trio The Bats Pajamas are set to release their new album, No Hello, on cassette and digi formats May 26th via Fleeting Youth Records.
The first taste of the upcoming record, “Wrong House,” showed us the grunge-y side of TBP with its crumbling guitars and a loose rhythm, sounding as dark and disheveled as punk rock would be after it’s been lost and roaming the streets for months without a home. But it’s the next track that fully embodies what “witch punk” is all about.
With hard chugging guitars that churn, spin, and spit like bewitched washing machines, “Witch Way,” is The Bats Pajamas conjuring up their most wicked noise. Wanton chants swirl with the stomping rhythm as depraved screams whirl around the vocals. It’s abrasive, but catchy in its own right; a bubbling cauldron thick with punk, noise rock, and grunge spite.
