With a reputation for chaotic live shows and a raucous sound – a mixture of genres best described as “intelligent party rock” or Latino rhythms combined with garage rock, brought together with psychedelic guitars and multilingual chants – Sudakistan has become one of the most exciting rock act to emerge from the Nordics in ages. With their long-awaited debut album Caballo Negro being released to rave reviews in November last year Sudakistan are ready to take on the world.
Sudakistan formed a couple of years back in Stockholm and quickly drew attention for their prowess as a live band, and less than a year in they’d already been praised by Pitchfork – who dubbed the band “Part Thee Oh Sees, part DFA1979… Pillaging, powerful stuff” – and had been hand-picked to open for fellow Swede’s GOAT. After a few sold-out singles the band the band went into the studio to record the debut album in the fall of 2013 together with the famed Swedish producer Joakim Åhlund of Les Big Byrd,Teddybears and Caesars.
The resulting album, Sudakistan’s debut Caballo Negro, is a tour de force that was praised around the world by the likes of KEXP, Classic Rock, Uncut, The Line of Best Fit, NARC., GQ, Marc Maron andBrooklynVegan upon its release via PNKSLM Recordings in November 2015. With packed out gigs in both the UK and Sweden already under their belt one of the world’s finest live acts will properly introduce themselves to the European audiences during 2016.
Sudakistan is Michell Serrano (vocals/guitar), Maikel Gonzalez (bass), Juan Jose Espindola (drums), Carlos Amigo (percussion) and Arvid Sjöö (guitar).
