“It’s has been a very busy Spring! I am just getting back from the Hedgebrook Women Playwrights Festival on Whidbey Island, an hour north of Seattle. I spent two and a half weeks in a cabin in the woods working on my play An Evening With Carson McCullers.
It was so exciting getting to know the other playwrights! Here is a link for more info about the festival and the photo is below. It was great seeing the actor Richard Zimon again as we knew each other from Performing Arts High School!!
Before that I spent a couple of months doing a fellowship for NYU Center for Ballet and the Arts. I heard some great lectures by Heather Watts about her work with George Balanchine and some historical lectures about the history of ballet from Jennifer Homans, the director. I have been speaking with Damian Woetzel about the possibility of choreographing a ballet to some of my older songs. I’ll keep you posted as to how that goes! This is exciting to me as I began studying ballet at the age of nine and have always loved it.
I’m working on a couple of videos for I Never Wear White and Don’t Uncork What You Can’t Contain. (Better late than never.) Charlie Spickler is the man behind the camera here.
The summer tour begins June 7! Check suzannevega.com/tour for dates and places!! I am touring with Gerry Leonard again and am really looking forward to getting out there on the road!
And much earlier this spring I forgot to tell you that Gerry and I sang the Star Spangled Banner at Madison Square Garden before the Rangers game! A first for me!
And in the fall I am touring with Duncan Sheik, come out and see us.”
Lots of love,
