Swim Mountain, a four man band from London, is set to release their debut EP. The eponymously named ‘Swim Mountain’ will be released on the 29th of September, courtesy of record label Hey Moon. Whilst we wait with patient anticipation, the psychedelic pop group have offered up a teaser.
The tune, named ‘Yesterday’, opens up with a light hearted riff that almost sounds like elevator music. This forms a backdrop to indie vocals, which are intertwined by shoe gazed ‘yeaaahs’. Lead guitar also interlinks these sections, with a hazy riff. The sound, to sum up, is irresistibly catchy. Shoe gazed indie pop is very popular at the moment, and it’s clear to see why.
After having a listen to some of the band’s other material, it is clear they have musical direction and talent. Indie pop mixes with dance beats and psychedelic elements, a winning combination. ‘Yesterday’ is a great song for the late summer blues; although I fear it may be labelled as generic. I look forward to the EP. 7.4/10
