New York, NY (March 22, 2019) – NYC-based producer, singer-songwriter, and community builder Taali weaves sonic landscapes that draw from her empowering Judaic culture and the uplifting stories of the fierce women with whom she surrounds herself. Her music – a beguiling mix of pulse, chamber pop, avant-electronica, and quiet storm – addresses identity, love, and overcoming trauma. Today, she shares her debut album I Am Here via her own Rainbow Blonde Records – listen via your favorite DSP.
Seamlessly incorporating traditional ancestral melodies and electronically enhanced compositions, I Am Here boldly introduces the sound of Jewish contemporary pop music. I Am Here has claps, hand glides, and lyrics that speak of blood and reclamation. The album even includes a brief interlude of recorded conversation between Taali and her grandmother, where she hears the story of her ancestor for the first time.
While finishing the album’s lyrics, our government was putting children in cages at the border, striking a deep, traumatic chord for Taali as a descendant of Holocaust survivors. “I cried for days,” Taali states. “It felt so trivial, writing music as my country literally did that which lives in my blood as something so painful and visceral. Eventually, I arrived at the idea that in these times, along with working to dismantle these oppressive systems, we all need to hunker down and focus on what we’re best at. That is our contribution.”
The LP, co-produced and written by Taali, represents over a decade of growth and community, and sees Taali inviting other artists to write alongside her the way she has for their records over the years. Ahead of the album release, Taali premiered single “Star” ft. José James, and stunning videos for “Los Angeles” and “Hear You Now“, which debuted at BlackBook and Billboard respectively.
Taali will embark on a cross-country tour, playing venues such as Le Poisson Rouge, World Café Live, and the Bootleg Theater, with additional dates to be added. Ahead of the LP, she embarked on the #IAmHereTrip, a film and photo documented cross country road trip with a caravan of like-minded artists. The trip spanned coasts; from desert sands to Memphis trolley-cars to Blue Ridge Mountain snow fall, and was officially partnered and sponsored by Cadillac, W Hotels, Hard Rock Hotels and others.
