The Bluetones – Drive Thru EP

The Bluetones, the legendary British indie rock band hailing from West London, have officially announced the release of their EP, marking their first new music since 2010.

Formed in 1993, The Bluetones quickly established themselves as a force in the UK music scene with thirteen Top 40 singles and three Top 10 albums. Although the band first rose to prominence during the Britpop era, their influence and artistry have never wavered.

“For the first time since we formed the music isn’t driven by an outside agenda, or a need to fill somebody else’s schedule. It feels like the purest thing we’ve done since we were a signed band” says frontman Mark Morriss.

It’s not too much of a surprise that the Bluestone formula has not moved beyond recognition, it’s like a former jumper the fits so well for the changing weather. The Bluetones have kept the same lineup with Mark Morriss on vocals, Adam Devlin on guitar, Scott Morriss on bass, and Eds Chesters on drums.

The EP title track purrs along with comfy indie fashion accented with good templed guitar and vocal partnership lulls the unwary to self-centred alike, way too easy to proclaim antigenic themes, but “Drive Thru” is a heartwarming and refrain memorable.

‘Billy Balfour’ is quiet by comparison, but still suffices well.  before last offering Madeleine’ the guitars awaken towards the fore, overmatched by Mark Morriss’ seemingly effortlessly vocalisations which commonly beguile.

The Drive Thru EP marks, to the same-minded a welcome return, The Bluetones trades are worn even on first listen, relax and enjoy. 8/10
