The Breeders – Cannonball EP (4AD)

After the recent Belly and continued Throwing Muses success, it’s not at all surprising  that The  Breeders are receiving the most enthusiastic reviews, perhaps all the clichés have already been wheeled out. Especially when all they can talk about are Kim Deal’s calves, even if it is amusing.

As a taster for the album ‘Cannonball’ sparks my interest, It’s not a massive departure from any of the older material by The Breeders, but is still works so well.

Other tracks featured are ‘Co-Aloha’ which also makes an appearance on the album in the form of ‘No-Alpha’, there’s a cover of Aerosmith’s ‘Lord Of Thighs’ (ho, ho, ho) and the the Josephine Wiggs’ penned ‘900’.

As long as the Belly, Muses Boston thing-a-ma-jig does not wear too thin, ‘Cannonball’ and the new album ‘The Last Splash’ should do very well, continuing 4AD’ high profile, the EP alone is that good. 8.8/10
