“Falling Stars”
June 17, 2026 – Vancouver-based vocalist, producer, DJ, and sonic architect the della kit announces her forthcoming album Dreams Speaking in Colour, arriving August 21 via Birthday Cake Records, alongside the release of its latest single, “Falling Stars.”
A deeply personal meditation on friendship, care, and chosen family, “Falling Stars” captures the quiet yet transformative power of being held through life’s challenges. Written during a period when friendship began revealing itself as something far deeper than the artist had previously understood, the song serves as a love letter to the people who show up when we need them most. “‘Falling Stars’ was written in a moment when friendship was revealing itself as something far deeper than I had ever understood,” says the della kit. “It became a song about mutual care, presence, and the quiet ways we hold each other through life. The friends who show up with tea when you’re low, who pull you out of your head when you’ve forgotten who you are, who remind you, softly but powerfully, that you’re not alone.”
Musically, “Falling Stars” embodies the warm, expansive sonic palette that defines Dreams Speaking in Colour. One of the first beats created for the album, the track pairs Dilla-inspired drum programming with drifting synth textures, spacious arrangements, and an infectious groove. Recorded across continents, it features guitarist Samir El Bousaadi, whose contributions from his home studio in Morocco bring African polyrhythmic textures and rhythmic depth, while renowned bassist DIOMO anchors the song with a rich, grounding low end.
At its core, “Falling Stars” embodies the album’s central themes of healing, connection, and self-reclamation. Across Dreams Speaking in Colour, the della kit expands her role not only as songwriter and vocalist but as producer, architecting immersive soundscapes that blur the boundaries between meditative R&B, soul, jazz, and hip-hop.
