The Go! Team are set to release their eagerly anticipated new album The Scene Between via Memphis Industries on 30th March, but the record is streaming early exclusively via NPR First Listen.
Going back to The Go! Team’s roots, bandleader Ian Parton had four rules before starting this new album: melody would guide the song, samples would be treated as an instrument rather than a basis for the song, the production would vary across the song like flipping the dial on a radio and the singers must all be people he’d never previously heard of. The result is The Scene Between, one of the finest albums in The Go! Team catalogue to date.
Previous record – Rolling Blackouts – became a natural end chapter for the band with members splintering off into different musical projects, getting married, teaching, experiencing real life. Frontman Ian Parton took the opportunity to return to the working methods he’d used at the origins of the band – crate digging, fooling around by himself, trying to nail a feeling. He elaborates, “I wanted to make an album driven by melody and song writing because catchiness is the hardest thing you can do. Brill Building hooks but permeated with a kind of wobbly VHS feel.”
The Scene Between is available for pre-order now at www.thegoteam.co.uk on pink vinyl, CD and download and, via iTunes, with instant download of the title track, ‘Blowtorch’, and ‘What D’You Say?’.
Additionally, purchases from UK indie shops come with Between the Scene Between cassette (with download), Ian Parton’s twisted, alternate take on the album.
The Go! Team will be performing live for the first time in four years at London’s Village Underground on 17 June. Tickets here.
