The Golden Dregs – Nobody Ever Got Rich (By Making People Sad)

“Minimalist guitar pop hewn from the notepad of Lou Reed, Jonathan Richman, or Robyn Hitchcock” – Clash“Mellow storytelling at its finest” – So YoungThe Golden Dregs shares the visuals for Nobody Ever Got Rich (By Making People Sad), a mellowed out, indie-pop gem that marks the first offering from his forthcoming new album set for release later this year.Following on from his 2018 debut LP Lafayette (released via Art Is Hard Records – previously home to Flamingods, Penelope Isles, The Orielles), Nobody Ever Got Rich signals the second chapter in the work of enigmatic newcomer Benjamin Woods – with the exception of backing vocals and cello, every instrument is played and recorded by Benjamin himself, spotlighting his impressive lo-fi, hook-laden sensibilities.

Discussing the official visuals, Woods stated: “The video was created by Jonny Thorpe, in St George’s German Lutheran Chapel in Aldgate. We wanted to create a visual response to the feeling of loneliness in the song – a sad priest in an empty church felt like the right fit for the narrative.” The Golden Dregs will shortly embark on an extensive UK tour, ahead of what promises to be a busy second half of 2019. The Golden Dregs’ Nobody Ever Got Rich is out now and wavailable on all digital platforms. Live Dates (message for press passes)18 June – The Five Bells, London
