‘The Savage Heart’ is the third studio album from rock ‘n’roll band The Jim Jones Revue and will be released via Play It Again Sam / Punk Rock Blues Records, due out on 15th October to co-inside with a live UK tour. For those of you who haven’t heard of these guys yet (where have you been?) the band are Jim Jones, Rupert Orton, Henri Herbert, Gavin jay, and Nick Jones. Formed back in 2008 they have so far released a self-titled album in2008 and the phenomenal ‘Burning Your House Down’ in 2010. Their self-titled album was recorded in 48 hours in a rehearsal studio in Camden town. They have also released a ‘b’ side album in 2009 entitled ‘Here To Save Your Soul’ so it’d been a bit of dry spell from these pretty prolific guys but not to worry their new album is just as great as the others.
Their sound is funky edgy rock ‘n’ roll which is gritty and a little rough around the edges just like it should be with dark and brooding lyrics oozing with passion and attitude. The use of keyboards gives an underlying Jazz feel to their sound and it is fantastic layered under, over, and through the insistent bass lines and rippling guitars. The title single ‘It’s Gotta Be About Me’ is assertive and self-assured with more attitude than you can shake a stick at. While ‘In And Out Of Harm’s Way’ is a like plunging into a bottomless pit of danger and perils unseen making this song darkly seductive in its cleaver use of bass and drums which add to the tension.
