Vinyl Packshot
The first single ‘Sunny Afternoon’ from The Kinks’ fourth studio album Face to Face remains one of The Kinks’ most staggering tunes. Written by Ray Davies, ‘Sunny Afternoon,’ is satirical tale of lost wealth which turned tax time blues into a baroque pop anthem, becoming an era defining classic and a timeless snapshot of the spirit of 1960s Britain at its wry, melodic best.

Lauded by critics and loved by fans across the globe, the quintessential classic ‘Sunny Afternoon’ topped the UK charts for two glorious weeks during the magic World Cup summer of 1966. Now, 60 years on the much-loved classic has broken the record for the longest gap between UK No. 1 singles, re-entering the official 7″ UK Singles Chart with a No.1 spot, alongside hitting No. 4 on the official physical singles chart and No. 12 on the official singles sales chart.

To celebrate 60 years of ‘Sunny Afternoon’ The Kinks have released a Limited Edition 60th Anniversary 7” vinyl which features the remastered original mono A and B side singles ‘Sunny Afternoon’ and ‘I’m Not Like Everybody Else’. For more information see HERE

The Exclusive sunshine coloured vinyl features a special written message from legendary English footballer and hat trick hero, Sir Geoff Hurst, who recalls with great fondness, “in the Wembley dressing room, we all danced, shouted, laughed, sang. There was so much joy to take in. Somebody started to sing ’Sunny Afternoon’ and we all joined in. Ray’s words captured the spirit of that moment – One I will never forget.”

“The Kinks encapsulate that time, they captured the englishness at its best. When ‘Sunny Afternoon’ comes on I’m straight back at Wembley with my teammates.”Sir Geoff Hurst

Alongside The Kinks’ many honours, including an Ivor Novello Award, an induction into the ‘Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame‘, four certified Gold albums and over 50 million records sold worldwide, ‘Sunny Afternoon’ breezed into the UK Singles Chart on 7th July 1966 and featured in Pitchfork Media’s list of The 200 Greatest Songs of the 1960s.
