Punk Legends Sing Their Praises

Los Angeles, CA, September 19, 2013 — The Last will unleash their seventh full-length album, Danger, on Tuesday, November 5, in stores and online via End Sounds. The album preserves the legendary Los Angeles punk outfit’s patent sound, while adding a kinetic spark. This is everything that fans have been waiting seventeen years for and so much more.

Lead-off track, “I Know,” is streaming now on PunkNews.org, and provides a punk-rock punch to kick the album into gear. The new age of The Last has formally begun.

Their influence remains pervasive throughout punk rock. Various luminaries continually extol the group’s impact and even sometimes hail founding member Joe Nolte as the “Godfather of South Bay Punk.” Keith Morris [Black Flag, OFF!, Circle Jerks, FLAG] says, “Where I grew up, all of the music around us was Top 40. Most of it was pretty bland and boring, and there was no bright spot-with the exception of The Last.” Meanwhile, producer and now band member Bill Stevenson [Descendents, ALL, Black Flag, FLAG] points out, “The Last are how you get from the Kinks to the Descendents. There is no other way.” Milo Aukerman [Descendents] adds, “I just loved The Last. I thought they were so great. I just wore out the grooves on the LA Explosion record.”

Everyone from The Bangles to Circle Jerks counts The Last amongst its influences. They pioneered a distinctly catchy yet raw and powerful sound that’s permeated every facet of rock and roll. With a seminal catalog on labels like SST and Bomp! Records, with releases L.A. Explosion! [1979], Look Again [1980], Painting Smiles on a Dead Man [1985], Confession [1988], Awakening [1989], and Gin & Innuendoes [1996], they’re continuing to build their formidable legacy now with End Sounds.

Raymond Pettibon, who created much of the iconic artwork for Black Flag, also did the cover art for Danger. Pettibon’s artwork for Danger will also be included with a special iTunes booklet and in large format for the vinyl editions of the release.

The Last is brothers Joe [vocals, guitar] and Mike Nolte [vocals, keyboard], Bill Stevenson [drums], and Karl Alvarez [bass]. Additions include the production and drum talents of Stevenson (listed #25 on Spin’s Top 100 Alternative Drummers and producer of albums by Rise Against, Alkaline Trio, NOFX, and Lemonheads), and the raw power of Alvarez (Descendents, ALL). The Last has a new, impeccable and impenetrable rhythm section and groove to the music.

Expect to hear more from The Last very soon.
