‘Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)’
Champions of the UK underground scene The Lovely Eggs return with their new single ‘Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)’ out on Friday, November 13th. The single is accompanied by artwork and a video by cult underground artist and baboon keeper Casey Raymond (who recently directed the Sleaford Mods/Leftfield video for “Head and Shoulders” and has worked with Cate Le Bon, Charlotte Church and John Grant to name a few). In the ‘Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)’ video we follow the oddball punk rock pair (Holly Ross and David Blackwell) on their screeching, psych-soaked quest to find a house party through the streets of their home town of Lancaster. This is yet another raucous punked up psych trip of nonsensical perfection and a big fuck you to the bland factory farmed digitally released singles around nowadays.
The band are currently on tour of the UK and will be playing at Birthdays in London tonight, with shows in Derby, Lancaster, Manchester as well as two Scottish dates in Glasgow and Edinburgh. They’re also booked in to do a session on 6 Music with Marc Riley on Monday 9 November.
‘Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)’ is the 2nd single to be taken from their new album This Is Our Nowhere (released earlier this year with 8/10 reviews in NME and much support from BBC 6 Music). Released on limited edition and mega-collectible “fried-egg vinyl” on their own label Egg Records, the hand-packaged 7” features the psychedelic fuzz pop mind frying A-Side ‘Goofin’ Around (in Lancashire)’ backed by brand new B-Side ‘Ballad of All Time and That’- a fuzzed out sludge-pop anthem about solidarity through the boozy bad times.
The Lovely Eggs continue to cement their reputation as one of the most exciting, innovative and genuine bands of the Great British Underground scene and have been selling out venues across the country without the help of management, booking agent or record label support.
With songs firmly set in the hum drum of everyday life, The Lovely Eggs turn normality on its head, squeezing it through their peculiar surreal mincing machine and blending it with fuzzed out guitar and crashing drums. For Holly and David being in a band is a way of life. And they approach it in a unique way laughing in the face of life’s absurdities. They are a rallying point for anyone that sees life for what it is. A mess. A wonderful, car crash of experiences, greeting each new chance with a cheeky grin, a sneer and a big fuck you to the pricks.
