The Pains of Being Pure At Heart To Release New Album
DINE ALONE RECORDS TO RELEASE THE PAINS OF BEING PURE AT HEART
Dine Alone Records is set to release ‘Belong’, the sophomore album from NY indie-pop quartet The Pains of Being Pure At Heart on May 10, 2011 in Canada.
After garnering widespread acclaim from the likes of The New York Times, Pitchfork, NME and countless indie blogs for their 2009 self-titled debut, the latest effort Belong sees Peggy Wang (keys/vox), Kip Berman (guitar/vox), Alex Naidus (bass), and Kurt Feldman (drums) continuing to make the kind of records that still matter. From the opening explosions of electric guitar on "Belong", and the sumptuously synthetic dance pop perfection of "The Body”, The Pains manage to create affecting, yet unaffected pop music.
Recorded with the production and mixing team of Flood (Depeche Mode, U2) and Alan Moulder (Smashing Pumpkins, Jesus and Mary Chain, Ride) Belong is a massive sounding album, sonically ambitious but still grounded in the peerless song-craft that the band is known for.
"I definitely see this album as keeping with what we started doing at the beginning, only more," says front man Berman. "More immediate, more noisy, more beautiful. We never stopped believing in noise and pop, but now we’ve pushed both further. Compared to the last record, It’s far more visceral, more vital, more of the body. It’s about feeling, not feelings.”
The Pains of Being Pure At Heart are currently on tour across the US in support of Belong (Slumberland Records/Collective Sounds in the US) then head on an extensive tour of Europe. Canadian dates are in the works for August. For more details and updates, visit the band’s website.
Belong received a stellar 8.2 rating and Pitchfork’s “Best New Music” honour.
